Calendar of the Close Rolls Preserved in the Public Record Office
The Close Rolls 1204-1227 (full records) and Calendar of Close Rolls are one of the largest and most important sources for English medieval history, containing letters, writs and mandates issued by the Crown that were considered of a private nature (in contrast to the Patent (or open) Rolls. Note The Rotuli Litterarum Clausarum are in full Latin and Record Type transcriptions. Record Type prevents fully searchable text. Introductions and indexes are searchable. The Calendar of the Close Rolls are in English calendared entries, and fully searchable.
